Student Who Threatened Salawa Abeni With Her Nude Pictures Gets Arrested

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a teenager, Olufowoke Oladunjoye Emmanuel.
The National Diploma holder of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), is accused of threatening to release nude photographs of veteran musician, Queen Salawa Abeni.

He is a resident of Brentfield Avenue, Peace Estate, Magboro, Ogun State.

The 19-year-old was picked up by the Decoy Team of Rapid Response Squad.

In his statement, Emmanuel disclosed that he saw the nude pictures in a memory card.

The 2017/2018 Electrical Engineering graduate claimed that he picked it up on the floor in YABATECH sometime in November 2019.

The suspect said after downloading the nude photographs of Salawa Abeni on his phone, he picked up her mobile number from her Instagram page.

The Eagle Online quoted him as saying: “On 1st of April, 2020, I chatted her up and also called her after sending few of the photos to her online. My intention was to negotiate with her for few bucks and for me to destroy the photographs. I thought everything was going on fine until the following day when I heard the news of the blackmail over the radio.

“I was with my mother. She was even cursing the blackmailer unknown to her that I was the brain behind it. I immediately sneaked out, destroyed the memory card and threw my mobile phone and SIM card into nearby wetland in Magboro. Since then, I never mentioned it to anyone and never called Madam Salawa Abeni about it again.”

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu, warned blackmailers and other criminals to stop their acts or face the consequences.

Assuring the people of safety of lives and property, Odumosu counselled parents and guardians to monitor their wards.

#JusticeForUwa: "Her Parents Did Not Report Any Rape Only Assault" - Edo Police Release Statement

A 100-level Microbiology student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Uwaila Omozuwa has been confirmed dead after being raped and beaten inside her local church.
The 22-year-old student who goes to read everyday at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin, was attacked with a fire extinguisher by unknown men on Wednesday, May 27.

A family source said Uwaila died on Saturday midnight at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where she was rushed to after the attack.

He said;

“The church’s security officer had gone to collect the keys to the church from its keeper when he was told that there was someone in the church already.

"He got to the church only to find Uwaila in a pool of blood  and next to her was the fire extinguisher which was used to bash her face.

"He ran back to inform the key keeper and his wife, who went to the church to meet her lifeless, thinking she was dead. After careful observation, they noticed she moved her hand and quickly rushed her to the hospital.

"It was at the hospital that Uwaila revealed she was reading all alone when some unknown men came into the church , beat, raped and hit her head with a fire extinguisher. However, she later passed on."

The state police via it's DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident but said the police only received a report of ''Assault Occasioning Harm'' and not rape as is being reported online.

Nwabuzor said the father of the girl went to the police station to report the matter but that he never mentioned rape.

''The information I received from the Divisional Police officer in charge of the Ikpoba Hill Division was that the father of the deceased made a complaint and the complaint he made was Assault Occasioning Harm and since he reported the matter, the father had not come back. They took the deceased to the hospital where she gave up the ghost. We have asked the DPO to reach out to the father of the girl who refused to come back to the station after reporting the case at the first instance.

I confirm that the incident happened and that the girl was assaulted but that of rape, nobody can testify. There was no one there that can testify that the girl was raped. The girl was in a Coma so they couldn't record a statement from her until she gave up the ghost.

The DPO said the father of the girl only reported Assault Ocassioning Harm, that no rape was mentioned because he himself wasn't there and nobody is coming forward to say I witnessed what happened there.

So the father's report according to the law is just a hear say testimony. He wasn't there'' the police spokesperson said

Nwabuzor said the police is currently carrying out an investigation into the matter to determine what truly happened.

Ex-NNPC Boss Allegedly Died Of COVID-19, Hospital Where He Was Treated Last Revealed

On Friday night, Maikanti Baru, former group managing director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), drew his last breath.
Mele Kyari, his successor, who broke the news on Twitter, did not state the cause of his death, though he was reported to have been sick.

His death is shocking, no doubt, but what is perhaps more tragic is that it is another tragedy in a string of tragedies in the Baru family.

Before he passed, the grim reaper had hit Baru’s family. He lost three immediate members of his family; his mother, sister and son —all in one year!

Mohammed, his son, died after collapsing in May 2017 while in UAE.

At the time, he was studying at the American University, Sharjah.

Baru lost him about two weeks after his sister died in the same month.

The former NNPC GMD was preparing to depart Nigeria for the 2017 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Texas, United States, when death struck his sister.

Also, he was at the time still mourning Fatima Baru, his mother, who died in her hometown in Misau local government area of Bauchi state.

His mother passed away after a brief illness at the age of 102, leaving behind five children and over 50 grandchildren.

However, self-proclaimed, Minister of Information & Diaspora, Adetutu Balogun, has via her Twitter page said that Baru died of COVID-19 after spending two days at the NNPC clinic before giving up the ghost at Ceder Crest Hospital, Abuja.

Bauchi Government Says Cause Of 200 Mysterious Deaths Is Illegal Abortions

An investigation carried out by the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has revealed that illegal abortion by unqualified medical practitioners is the cause of mysterious deaths in Azare and other local government areas in the northern part of the state.
At least 200 women have died in Bauchi as a result of this and there are projections that the number could be more at the end of the investigation.

The Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, who disclosed this Friday, May 29, at an interactive session organized by the Bauchi State Public Health Media Network, said the investigation had not been concluded on the development, but preliminary findings had revealed that the number of such deaths was about 200, adding that the number could be more at the end of the investigation.

Mohammed said the deaths resulted from unwanted and unplanned pregnancies by both married and unmarried women of childbearing ages who, after becoming pregnant, visited quack health workers to terminate the pregnancies.
