PIERRE-EMERICK Aubameyang scored a hat-trick on Wednesday night to give troubled Arsenal their first win of the season in a 6-0 rout of West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup second round.
With back-to-back Premier League defeats to Brentford and Chelsea, Arsenal had their worst ever start to a season but turned things around at the Hawthorns.
Gabon striker Aubameyang, making his first start of the season, scored Arsenal’s first two goals of the campaign before Nicolas Pepe and Bukayo Saka also struck.
Aubameyang completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark and Alexandre Lacazette added the sixth against the Championship side to advance to the third round.
The Premier League’s top seven sides from last season are joining the Carabao Cup from the third round, and their opponents were revealed on Wednesday night.
Carabao Cup holders and Premier League champions Manchester City will kick off their defence of the trophy at home to third-tier Wycombe Wanderers, while the other teams in last season’s top four got tougher opponents.
League runners-up Manchester United were drawn at home to West Ham, who finished sixth last season, while third-placed Liverpool will travel to Premier League newcomers Norwich City, and fourth-placed Chelsea are at home to Aston Villa.
Watford and their Nigerian contingent (William Troost-Ekong, Oghenekaro Etebo and Emmanuel Dennis) will welcome second-tier Stoke City, as Everton and Alexander Iwobi are away to Queens Park Rangers.
Leicester City, who finished fifth in the Premier League last season and have Super Eagles stars Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi in their ranks, travel to second-tier Millwall.
Arsenal will host Wimbledon, while Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
