Nigeria had recently confirmed five new cases of COVID-19, at a time when the global death toll from the disease had hit 7,994 with more than 200,000 infected across over 100 countries.
The cleric, however, shared a video where he stated that the virus won’t come close to those “who serve God wholeheartedly”.
Adeboye’s statement has since sparked a heated debate on social media platforms especially Twitter, where users are presently registering their differing opinions.
“Perverse knowledge is the coronavirus Nigerians are suffering from. Pastor Adeboye simply balanced prayer of hope, calling you to Jesus, strengthening your faith and personal hygiene but as always y’all turn a blind eye to the latter. Carry on,” a Twitter user said.
“People abuse Buhari daily but no videos and hot takes on that. Y’all just have problem in this country. How does the video Pastor Adeboye released make sense? Aren’t there Christians who have died from this virus Christianity sometimes sickens me,” another user said.
Here is what some Nigerians had to say:
I want to assure you that so far you are in the secret place of the most high, no Virus can come near your dwelling. Remember being able to abide under his shadow involves you living a life of cleanliness. the basic things like washing your hands, keeping your environment clean.. pic.twitter.com/HQhnGQOHKx— PastorEAAdeboye (@PastorEAAdeboye) March 16, 2020

Elders that messed up our country. They don't deserve any respect! The corruption this country is experiencing today was orchestrated by the so called elders. Just cuz you were born before me doesn't mean you've earned respect. Foolish people also grow old.— ✌🏿Udo...✍ (@uddeze) March 18, 2020
So which part of this Pastor Adeboye's Video is making you angry?— Osas Cruz (@theOsasCruz) March 18, 2020

You guys should see this..if he dies from it, does it mean he’s been a fake pastor all dis while?
According to Pastor Adeboye the Coronavirus Pandemic is a punishment from God for those who don't serve him wholeheartedly! Sometimes these religious leaders make God look like a very wicked man.— 💙❤️Ultimate Kombo🇳🇬 (@ultimate_kombo) March 17, 2020
Pastors' slave. But you can equally object to other elders opinion but when the elder has pastor attached to his name we shouldn't say nothing.— Temimatic (@temisimo) March 18, 2020
Your height of hypocrisy is taller than what you can ever imagine.

How can a loving Father bring pain, anguish and death to His children?
As for what Pastor Adeboye said, I don't expect less,He literally quoted the Bible.
