Man reveals how he killed an okada rider in Ekiti because of N100

An accused, Toyin Ajakaye, has told an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court that he killed a motorcycle rider, Omoniyi Are, because of a disagreement over N100.

Toyin told the court that the commercial rider took him to his farm where a fight ensued between them over the transport fare.

He said the fight started when he gave the rider N100 instead of the N200 he charged.

According to the charge sheet, Toyin allegedly committed the crime on August 22, 2018 in Agbado-Ekiti, in the Gbonyin Local Government Area.

Toyin claimed that he held the deceased by the neck as he (Omoniyi) held on to his private part, adding that the rider died during the struggle.

The accused confessed that he dug a shallow grave and buried him on the farm.

The Investigating Police Officer, Lasisi Basiru, said, “The accused tied a rope to the neck of the rider before burying the corpse.”

The defence counsel, Busuyi Ayorinde, pleaded that the case file be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The magistrate, Mrs. Modupe Afeniforo, remanded the defendant in custody and adjourned the case till October 16, 2018.
